A woman takes a live-in job with a wealthy couple whose perfect house turns out to be anything but, and the story proceeds to pull the rug out from under the reader more than once. Fast, propulsive, and a deliberate change of pace after a long run of heavier non-fiction.

A New York Times bestseller, now adapted into a Netflix documentary. What began as a 1999 magazine assignment on the 30th anniversary of the Manson murders turned into a twenty-year obsession. Drawing on hundreds of new interviews and previously unseen LAPD, FBI, and CIA documents, O'Neill challenges the official “Helter Skelter” account and traces apparent cover-ups reaching into the government's mind-control research.

A bit of backstory
During the early days of COVID, my college friends and I — spread across the country, one even joining from El Salvador — decided to start a book club. We were a group of former fraternity brothers who'd played collegiate soccer and lacrosse together, not exactly your typical book club crowd. But it turned out to be the perfect way to keep a sense of normalcy, find a little distraction from the uncertainty, and reconnect in a fun, thought-provoking way. We made it through a surprising number of diverse books, and those discussions became something we all looked forward to. Now I want to bring that same sense of connection and exploration to you.
